Engineered Hardwood Flooring

What to Know Before You Shop

Style and Design

A Diverse Range of Styles to Elevate Any Interior

Robbins is committed to providing our retail customers with a broad range of exciting visuals inspired by both regional and national trends. Browse an abundance of beautiful engineered hardwood designs to complete any decorative vision – from classic elegance to modern rustic. We offer more than a hundred styles of engineered hardwood flooring. Colors range from white and blonde to copper and brown. You can select from several species and various finishes are also available with planks ranging up to 9″ wide.

Engineered hardwood flooring looks just like solid hardwood. But the floor is slightly less thick, ranging from 3/8 to 9/16 inches. You can often purchase engineered hardwood flooring with wider widths of 7 inches or more. Unlike solid hardwood, engineered wood flooring uses a thin hardwood veneer bonded to a layered core. That layered core generally uses plywood assembled in a crisscross fashion: the more layers, the more stable the flooring. If cost is a concern, engineered hardwood generally costs less than solid hardwood. Remember the plywood core we mentioned? Well, that makes engineered hardwood flooring more capable of handling moisture concerns than solid hardwood. Neither hardwood flooring option is recommended for wet locations, unless waterproof, which we talk about below. But engineered hardwoods’ plywood core provides greater stability. As a result, it’s less prone to warp in damp, humid conditions where solid hardwood will be a significant concern. You can install solid and engineered hardwood flooring with a standard nail-down method. But engineered hardwood offers more flexibility for flooring installation.

Regardless of which you select, you’ll get the appeal of designer hardwood flooring in your home.

Engineered Hardwood: A Perfect Fit for Every Room

Withstands Environmental Changes

Because engineered hardwoods’ layered construction contains a strong and stable core, it’s a reliable choice for establishments that could be subject to moisture, humidity and changes in temperature. One of engineered hardwoods’ chief advantage over solid hardwood is its water resistance. Enjoy up to 8 hours of waterproof protection, thanks to our six-sided finish and backed by our limited warranty* – engineered hardwood can be installed on any level in your home.

Can Be Sanded and Refinished

Robbins hardwood products are built to last. But if you ever desire a style change, some of our engineered collections do have a top hardwood layer that is thick enough to be refinished.

Durable for Frequent Daily Use

For busy retailers, we offer a wide range of engineered hardwood products with superior dent and scratch resistance. Look for styles made from Oak, Hickory and Maple, the hardest species we offer. All of our engineered hardwood flooring collections come with a lifetime structural warranty.

Lots of Options, Even in Challenging Spaces

There are several ways to install engineered hardwood: it can be stapled, glued down or simply floated, where planks lock into each other and sit above the subfloor with no adhesive support. And it can be installed in below-ground spaces and over concrete subfloors and radiant heating systems. Floating engineered wood might be your best move if you’re updating a room, finishing a basement, or just tired of staring at worn-out floors. It’s sleek and durable and installs over almost anything – concrete, plywood, even old vinyl.

Installing traditional hardwood used to mean long timelines, loud tools, and professional installers. But with floating engineered wood floors, the game’s changed. Here are some of the best spots to use it:

Basements: Engineered wood handles moisture better than solid hardwood, and the floating method works great over concrete when paired with proper underlayment.

Condos and upper floors: Floating floors, combined with sound-reducing underlayment, help reduce noise transfer between levels.

Renovations: There is no need to demo existing flooring (if it’s level and secure). Just float right over it to save time.

Rental properties: Without permanent adhesives or fasteners, it is easier to replace a section or the entire floor down the road.

Open-concept spaces: Floating floors are a clever design move because they offer real hardwood’s consistent, seamless look and a faster installation.

    Plan Accurately to Avoid Surprises

Even if you’re experienced with hardwood flooring installation, keep these budget and timing tips in mind as you begin shopping and planning out your project.

    Factor in All Costs

Be sure to budget for more than the cost per square foot. Here are additional costs that can sometimes get overlooked.

    • 10% extra material

    • Product delivery fees

    • Trims and moldings

    • Subfloor repairs and underlayment, if needed

    • Professional installation, including removal and disposal of old floor

    Create a Realistic Timeline

Depending on the size of your space, it may only take a few days for the floors to go in. It’s the tasks leading up to it that people often neglect to include in their plans, such as:

    • Clearing out the space, if necessary

    • Removing the old flooring

    • Preparing the subfloor, which must be level, clean and dry

    • Installing underlayment
